Top Strategies to Tick off your To Do List

It is common for professionals to create a daily to-do list that they aim to accomplish at the end of the workday. However, not all follow through their to-do list.  A large number of professionals admit that they are unable to complete their list at the end of the day.

If you are one of those individuals who cannot seem to get on top of their to-do lists, here are ways you can increase your productivity and crush your list:

Follow One List

Keep track of everything you should accomplish within the day by creating one list.  Would you be effective in post-its? Can you accomplish tasks using an app? Choose your method and consolidate your task. Just ensure that you can add anything or sync your tasks.

Practice the 80/20 Rule

This is also known as the Pareto Principle where 80 percent of your results come from 20 percent of your efforts. In short, work smart, not hard. Find in your list the most difficult thing that you should complete and move on to your next tasks. Identify one big task, 3 average tasks, and 5 smaller ones that you should complete within the day. This will allow you to know your priorities.

Categorize Your Tasks

Learn when to postpone, delegate or refuse a task.  Part of being productive is knowing the tasks that you are most capable to accomplish. Find the tasks that you can complete later and those that you can entrust to your team. Ensure that the tasks you are writing are the ones that you need to accomplish in the first place. If most of the tasks belong to someone else’s, then it is time to revisit your priorities.

Schedule Your Emails and Social Media

Schedule a time in your day to respond to emails and even your social media. You can compile your subscriptions into a daily or weekly digest or unsubscribe to your mailing list. You can also use an app to minimize your social media fixation. Checking your timeline mindlessly can take as much as 2 hours of your time at work.

Plan Your Tasks Ahead of Time

Come up with your to-do list the night before. This allows you to have a clearer mind and determine your priorities the following day. You are also more likely to form a solution once you determined the tasks that you need to complete the day after.

Create a Done List

Crash out a task you have completed on your list. This gives you a positive mode and provides you with a sense of accomplishment that you are narrowing down your list. Additionally, if you haven’t done anything from your list, it also serves your wakeup call to get started.

Nothing is more fulfilling than ticking off every task in your to-do list. Start to organize your list and minimize distractions.
